The scanner and copy functions are also great, and I LOVE printing directly on printable CD's and DVDs.ĬONS: I've had two problems that are very minor:ġ) Sometimes when copying an image from the scanner bed to the CD or DVD for printing, the image seems to move off to one side for some silly reason.Ģ) From the first day I got the printer (at Best Buy on sale for $100), the yellow color would not show up on the nozzle check printout. The kind I got came from a guy called vtech, but I see that a guy called wow-great now has them for less money. A CIS system provides about 10 times as much ink in tanks compared to the original cartridges, so the cost per print is much lower. I bought a CIS system for mine and it still works great. This printer uses dye inks with UV protection, so when you use a good coated paper (see above) you get water resistant prints that last for decades! The best value for paper is Kirkland brand at Costco for your normal prints. I presume you didnt buy it new at that time. And, I think these listed for 550, and were available discounted. The printer, whether in a box or not, is very old.
As I recall, the R1800 was replaced far more than 2 years ago. The print quality on this thing is EXCELLENT! Be sure to use good paper, not the low end Kodak junk that is worthless. Epson says that as long as they are sealed they are good for 2 years. This is overall a real nice printer, I would buy it again but models change so often that it will probably be obsolete by then. No, I have a clean home, it is that the paper needs a cover. I do not like paper sitting out like that either, when I don't use the printer for a couple weeks, the first print has dust on it. Paper is fed from the back top, I have the printer on the back of a table, loading is tricky to align the paper.
Software for printing on cd's is way off center, it requires a lot of adjusting to get ri ght. CD printing tray is kind of bad, the lever to raise the carriage to the higher level requires some pressure. The printer will not print with a cartridge that is too low.ĭislike- Expensive cartridges for the quantity of prints. I have tried to substitute inks but found that they do not compare in quality of image to the expensive Epson inks. Printing is great, sometimes it feeds 2 sheets of paper, but image quality is great. I like the built in card reader, it makes one less computer connection.
The quality is nice, just keep the platen clean. From Photoshop you can let the scanner crop, identify the type image (b/W, color, document) and scan with one button.
